What does “Working From Anywhere” look like in a State-Owned Enterprise?

One of the increasingly popular trends across various industries since the pandemic’s outbreak is “Work From Anywhere” (WFA). The practice of WFA expanded in 2020 and gradually became a prioritized requirement for many employees up to the present.

Numerous surveys conducted by international consulting firms among employees in Indonesia in 2021 found that approximately 94% of the respondents no longer wish to work exclusively from the office.

Here are three factors that employees consider:

  1. Availability of the option to work from anywhere.
  2. Flexible working hours.
  3. Special policies regarding remote work allowances.

In the previous year, a renowned state-owned telecommunications company approached me to join. After a few trial interactions, specifically the third one, I ultimately decided to wholeheartedly accept their offer and become a part of the state-owned enterprise, dedicating myself to the nation.

The pandemic’s momentum served as a turning point for Telkom Indonesia, prompting the company to create iterative employee policies that align with the pandemic conditions to remain relevant.

“Reflecting on the early days of the pandemic, the company realized that offering the option to work from anywhere is a form of policy that prioritizes the individuals who implement it. The company provides responsible freedom for employees to wisely choose their work locations, thereby enhancing their optimization and productivity.

Home is not the sole workplace. With the Work from Anywhere policy, employees can choose to work from the office, home, café, or any other location.

After approximately 6 months of being a part of this state-owned entity, I noticed several changes in the way it operates, which can be described as resembling the practices of leading startups in Indonesia.

One of these changes is the tangible manifestation of implementing the state-owned company’s Core Values, #AKHLAK, which include #Adaptif and #FlexibleWorking. On August 2, 2022, our Digital Product Management Chapter at Telkom Indonesia hosted its first Townhall event.

We are the youngest Chapter within Telkom Indonesia. The Digital Product Manager Chapter is responsible for managing digital products at Telkom Indonesia, operating under the Digital Business Technology Department (DBT) and the Digital Business Directorate (DDB). Our services are aimed at creating and building user experiences of the highest quality for various product teams within the Tribe (Squad) & Unit.

During this Townhall event, we organized a hybrid gathering, where I had the privilege to attend in person at the Telkom Indonesia STO Gambir office in DKI Jakarta. Our product colleagues from different parts of Indonesia, such as Yogyakarta and Bandung, also participated online through a video conferencing application.

This Townhall was also attended by Mr. Deputy EVP Kita Bapak Ery Punta and our Chapter Leader, Mr. Mas Zakka Fauzan Muhammad. Here are some snapshots from the Townhall event.

It’s quite impressive, isn’t it? To my fellow LinkedIn connections, I encourage you not to hesitate in becoming part of the state-owned enterprise today. One of our core values is adaptability. For those who wish to join us, you can find more information in the links below:
